Another book bites the dust! I just got done with “American Pie” by Michael Lee West. It is about three sisters that are very different from one another and their grandmother. The story is simultaneously told from all four women’s perspectives.
At first it was a little hard to follow, because you are trying to learn who all of the characters are and each woman that is telling the story has different characters that come in and out of her life.
The main thing that brings all four women back together is a terrible accident that happens to one of the sisters. As they come together you learn more about their family history and each woman’s personal history and how it is affecting their lives today.
It is set in Tennessee, so it is a good ol’ southern book and speaks to the southern belle in all of us. I thought it was an OK book. I just read “The Help” this spring, so I couldn’t help to compare it to that (even though the stories are nothing alike, “The Help” is written in a similar style and is about the south) and it just didn’t measure up. Of course, when you spend 90% of your day in bed, it keeps you entertained and is worth the read if you enjoy southern writers and tales.
Next up? The Hunger Games and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Stay tuned…
